Skype and Study IT in Estonia Master’s Scholarship 2015


The purpose of Skype and Study IT in Estonia Master’s Scholarship is to support the studies of excellent Master`s students of Cyber Security or Computer and Systems Engineering at Tallinn University of Technology and Software Engineering or Informatics at the University of Tartu. The scholarship will help to support the studies and motivation of excellent Master`s students of Computer Science and Information Technology and to increase the international recognition of Estonian ICT education. Scholarship is regulated by: Skype and Study IT in Estonia Master’s Scholarship Statute.


In the academic year 2015/2016, the total amount of the scholarship is € 52 000 and 8 scholarships will be awarded. The amount of one scholarship is € 6500 in a an academic year.


The purpose of the scholarship is to cover the expenses of the upcoming academic year. Scholarship period is the academic year 2015/2016, all together 10 months. Application is open to all students who have been accepted to corresponding Master's programs. The applicant must be a full-time student with a weighted GPA of at least 3.5 (incl.). For first year students, the weighted GPA from previous specialized studies is taken into account. Scholarship cannot be received simultaneously with other scholarships, excl. national study allowance and scholarships supporting short period studies abroad.

Application deadline was September 21, 2015.


To apply for the scholarship you need to have following additional documents in Estonian or English:

  • Motivation letter and description of planned Master's dissertation or area of interest (up to 1000 characters);
  • Curriculum Vitae of the applicant;
  • Recommendation letter from a person chosen at discretion of the applicant;
  • Study record or academic certification of the entire study period from the previous (for first year students) or current (for second year students) institution of higher education.

The selection of scholarship recipients takes place in two rounds. In the first round, the representatives from Skype select among the received applications the applicants (taking into account the motivation, previous education, professional activity, and future vision on self-development) who will be asked to continue in the second round of interviews. Scholarship Board will organize interviews with up to 20 best applicants.


Applicants who continue to the interview round shall be selected during 6 workdays. Second round interviews will take place on 2nd of October. Scholarship recipients shall be selected by October 5, 2015.


Scholarship will be paid out in two installments: in October after the confirmation and in February with a requisition that the scholarship receiver still continues studying in full-time basis,has acquired at least 20 ECTS during fall semester and has a weighted GPA of at least 3.5.
